Marcelino "Mars" Serna - Board President

Marcelino “Mars” Serna has over 38 years of experience as a public servant in the areas of Education, Recreation, and Human Services. For the past 16 years, Mars has served the districts of San Bernardino City Unified School District (2006 to 2014), ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ (2015-2016), and currently the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools as the Family/Community Engagement Program Specialist supporting the 33 districts throughout the county with their respective family and community engagement initiatives. He also has served as an Adjunct Professor at San Bernardino Valley College in the Human Services Department where he taught Cultural Proficiency and Cross-Cultural Communication.

Mars has also served on a variety of community boards. He currently serves as member of the Governing Board of Education at ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥. He also serves on the Executive Board of the San Bernardino County Gangs & Drugs Taskforce, the Inland Empire Fatherhood Involvement Coalition, the San Bernardino County Mentoring Advisory Committee, and the Loma Linda University Health’s Community Benefit Advisory Council (CBAC). Along with serving on these boards, he was the co-founder of the Inland Empire Family Resource Center Coalition, where he served as Chairperson from 2008 to 2014.

Mars received an associate degree from Riverside Community College, a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from California State University, San Bernardino, and his master’s degree from University of Redlands in Management. He is happily married to his wonderful wife Marissa and has (4) children, Jesse 34, Elena 32, Andrew 29, Issak 17 and is currently rearing his 13-year-old niece, Sophia. He also has (4) grandchildren.

Adam Perez - Board Vice President

 Adam Perez is native Southern California citizen. Mr. Perez joined the Army at the age of 18. After returning home, Mr. Perez graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and also holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.

Joe Armendarez - Board Member

Joe Armendarez was elected to the ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ (FUSD) Board of Education in November 2020.  Mr. Armendarez was born and raised in the city of Fontana, and his service to the Fontana community spans over more than a decade.  He has been a Manager/Head Coach at Fontana Pop Warner Football, and a Head Coach and Board Member for Fontana Elks Little League.  He also served as a coach for the Fontana High School-Marine Corps ROTC Rifle team where he instructed students in the fundamentals of marksmanship and played a key role in coaching the Rifle team to its first national competition.

Mr. Armendarez is a Track Supervisor with the BNSF Railway engineering team. He is the proud father of 3 children who are all FUSD graduates, and 9 grandchildren; 8 of which currently attend schools in FUSD grades pre-K to 3rd. Mr. Armendarez is focused on always putting the well-being of students first, and developing new and innovative ways to unlock the genius in every child.

Jennifer Quezada, Ed.D.- Board Member

Dr. Jennifer Quezada is a proud product of our Fontana K-12 schools and is a former ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ teacher. She knew since 4th grade at Tokay Elementary that she was destined to become a teacher. Dr. Quezada is a first-generation college graduate and believes with high expectations and rigorous, standards-based instruction, students can achieve anything. She knows our Fontana students are resilient and strong and she will fight relentlessly for them.

Her current term expires in 2024.

Mary Sandoval - Board Member

Ms. Sandoval, a resident of the City of Fontana for 61 years, was elected to the ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ Board of Education in November 2014. she has been married for 40 years to her husband Jesse and have 3 adult children; Jesus Jr., Maria Teresa, Maria Cecelia, son-in-law Willie and grandchildren: Giselle, Christopher and Francisco. Her family including: Uncles, Aunts, Brothers, Children, Son-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews have all attended and graduated from Fontana Schools.
