Redwood Elementary School

  • Dear Redwood Eagles,

Welcome back to another exciting school year at Redwood Elementary Dual Immersion School! I hope this letter finds you well and eagerly anticipating the start of the 2023-2024 academic year. Whether you are a returning student or joining us for the first time, I extend my warmest greetings to each and every one of you. My name is Dr. Jorge Arauz, and I am honored to continue serving as the principal of this amazing school.

At Redwood, we are committed to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive. I am thrilled to announce that our dedication to excellence has been recognized, and we are proud to maintain our status as a PBIS Platinum school. Our schoolwide expectations of Safety, Ownership, Attitude, and Respect (SOAR) will guide us in creating a safe and nurturing space for your academic and personal growth.

As we embark on the new school year, I want to remind you of our four focus areas at Redwood:

    1. College-Going Culture: Our core belief is that all students can learn, and all Redwood Eagles will be prepared to go to college without any excuses. We will work tirelessly to provide you with the support and resources you need to achieve your highest potential and equip you for future success.

    2. Building Positive Character: At Redwood, we place immense value on developing strong character traits such as kindness, empathy, and responsibility. These qualities will not only help you succeed academically but also shape you into compassionate and responsible members of society.

    3. Love of Reading: We believe that reading is a gateway to endless knowledge and imagination. Embracing a love for reading will enrich your learning experiences and open up new worlds for exploration.

    4. Bilingualism and Biliteracy: As part of our Dual Immersion program, we have a special focus on teaching students to learn, speak, and write in Spanish. We recognize the importance of bilingualism and biliteracy in today's world. Being proficient in both English and Spanish provides you with a competitive edge in the global job market and promotes intercultural understanding and communication.

Our dedicated teachers and staff are committed to lovingly serving all students and providing effective direct instruction that meets your individual needs. We will use assessment data to inform our instructional practices and ensure that you receive the best possible education.

Parents and families, we recognize the vital role you play in your child's education. Active parent engagement is key to student success, and we encourage you to continue being involved in your children's learning journey. Our Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC), Coffee with the Principal, and School Site Council are all avenues for you to participate actively in school life.

As we progress through the school year, we will provide you with more information on exciting initiatives, events, and opportunities for growth and learning.

I am truly excited about the upcoming school year and the incredible potential it holds for each of you. Together, let us make this a year of growth, discovery, and success. Remember, at Redwood Elementary Dual Immersion School, "All Students Can Learn! All Redwood Eagles Will Be Prepared To Go To College… No Excuses!" Let us also celebrate the richness of bilingualism and biliteracy as we learn and grow together.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to our dedicated staff. We are here to support you every step of the way.

Wishing you all a fantastic and rewarding 2023-2024 school year!

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Jorge Arauz
    Principal
