Dear Sierra Lakes Families,

Welcome to a new and exciting year of learning. 2023-2024 is gearing up to be our best year yet. My name is Joel Aviña. I’ll be serving as your new principal. I have been with ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ for 17 years. My last school, in our district, was Shadow Hills Elementary. I served there as principal for 7 years. Prior to that I was at South Tamarind Elementary where I served as principal for 8 years. Now, I am thrilled to be a Sierra Lakes Shark. I am looking forward to meeting each of you as the year progresses.

Our Sierra Lakes Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and I met recently to plan out a 2023-2024 year of amazing event and activities. I’d like to thank them, our PTA leadership, for the wonderful work they do for our school. Their time and dedication is very much appreciated. Please consider joining our PTA to make us even stronger.

We invite you to participate in the many activities we have planned, as well as attending our monthly Coffee with the Principal meetings and other parent committees. Know that we are partners in insuring all our children receive the best educational program. Let’s work through any conflicts with openness, kindness and respect. Together we will achieve great things for our students.

Our Teachers and teaching support staff work diligently to prioritize literacy with a focus on writing, numeracy and Social Emotional Learning (SEL). At our Coffee with the Principal meetings, we will be sharing many of the curricular programs we utilize.

New for 2023-2024

Full Day Kindergarten will begin from the first day of school (August 3, 2023).

Construction has begun at Sierra Lakes. Our 4^th and 5^th grade students’ classrooms are on the south part of our campus.

Drop-off and Pick-up: Please be sure to follow all traffic and safety rules/laws while dropping off and picking up children. Safety is our number one priority. Please exercise caution and patience as we get back into the swing of things. When we all work together, our routines work more efficiently.

Assistant Principal - Ms. Munmun

Welcome to the 2023 – 2024 school year! I am honored to the ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ and serve as the Assistant Principal of Sierra Lakes Elementary and be a part of our Shark family.

I began my journey in Education 19 years ago as an instructional aide in LAUSD while attending Glendale Community College. After a couple of years, I realized that education is my passion, and there is nothing else I’d rather do. I received my Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees from Arizona State University.

Before joining FUSD, I worked as a classroom teacher in Osborn School District in Phoenix, AZ and then in YCJUSD where I taught all grade levels from 1st – 6th. Throughout my career, I have been dedicated to serving all students and be an equitable educator.

I am proud of our staff for doing their very best every day to keep our students safe and ensure student success. I look forward to working closely with our principal, Mr. Avina, our dedicated staff and all families to build a positive culture. promote a love of learning and create a sense of belonging for all students. I strongly believe that together, we can ensure a successful year for our young sharks.
