Welcome Back!

Hello Kathy Binks Koalas!

We are so excited about returning to school for our second semester.  It is a busy and exciting time for students.  We enjoy friendships and classroom activities.  We are studying and showing our creativity.  We are stretching our thinking when we respond to reading or figuring out math problems.  We have STEM, science, and music classes.  Our days are full and we love it!

Our second semester also includes some state and district testing.  Here is the tentative timelines for testing:

English Language Proficiency State Test (ELPAC; English Learners only) begins in February.

California State test for English Language, Math, and Science (SBAC; Grades 3-5; science - 5th grade only) begins in April.

California Physical Fitness (5th grade only) test begins in February.

ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ i-Ready test (all students K-5) begins in April.

We have created a testing schedule where students are not overwhelmed by testing nor testing more than one item at a time.  Our students at Kathy Binks have traditionally done well as they are taught to take their time (tests are not timed) and we give as much support to students as we can. We also begin our testing with a rally to celebrate students from the previous year.  This gets students excited and they want to do well.  

Families can support students through testing by ensuring they come to school every day, get plenty of sleep, and have a good breakfast (at home or at school).
